OECON Group Bulgaria at Roma Identity Forum

On June 3rd, Niya Andonova, part of the OECON Group Bulgaria team, attended the round table discussion “Roma of Europe – The Heart of the Balkans: Crossed Perspectives” at the French Institute in Sofia. The event brought together leading voices from academia, civil society, and Roma communities to reflect on Roma identity, history, and the challenges facing Roma populations across the Balkans.

The discussion offered insights into past and present issues shaping Roma representation, with contributions from historians, educators, and cultural practitioners. For Niya, the event served as an opportunity to connect with relevant stakeholders and explore potential avenues for collaboration within the framework of the ROMDIEM project — a European initiative focused on preserving Roma Holocaust memory through research, education, and public engagement.

Following the round table, she had the chance to introduce herself to several key participants and initiate conversations about future involvement in the ROMDIEM project’s upcoming activities.
